Who we are
Prefix Pact is made and run by Raisen LLC. For any question about your data or the game, write to hello@prefixpact.com.
On this device
The game keeps these in your browser's local storage. They stay on this device unless a section below says they are sent.
prefix.days: the dates you played, up to the last 60, so the game can tell whether you are back and how long your streak is.prefix.consent: your two choices below, and when you made them.prefix.id: a random ID, only if you allowed it. It is removed if you take that choice back.- The game's own settings and progress, such as the Keeper's skill, the scene and today's result.
They stay until you clear this site's data in your browser, which removes all of them.
Sent to our game server
- Your clues, the letters shown so far and the words already played, so the Keeper and Teapot can answer. They may be passed to a service provider that processes the text for us. Our server keeps clues and answers in a cache so the same clue gets the same answer; the cache holds no ID and no address, and is kept until we clear it.
- A count when a game starts and when it ends: the mode (Daily or practice), which word level you played, the Daily's number, won or lost, tokens left, whether you have played before, how many days since you last played, and your streak as a range (0, 1–2, 3–6 or 7+ days). These are added to totals per day, per puzzle and per word level, which are anonymous and are kept while the game runs.
- Your random ID, only if you allowed it, with each count. The server keeps the list of days that ID played on and nothing else, to see how many players come back after 1, 7 and 30 days. The list is deleted once the ID has not played for 400 days.
Our server does not keep your IP address, your browser details, or any cookie, and sets no cookie.
Leaderboard
When you finish the Word of the Day, the game sends your result to our leaderboard, so it can be ranked with other players at the same word level. Only the Word of the Day is sent; practice games and past puzzles are not. With it the game sends:
- A random player ID, made by your browser the first time you send a result and kept in its local storage as
prefixpact.board.player. It is sent only with a Word of the Day result. The leaderboard keeps a code made from it, not the ID itself. When you open the board, the game sends that code, never the ID, so it can show your own line. - Your board name, such as Clever Otter 7, which the game makes for you from fixed lists of words and keeps as
prefixpact.board.name. Other players see it on the board. Change, on the Leaderboard, picks another one. - Your result and time: the puzzle's number, your word level, won or lost, the letters still hidden, the tokens left, your points, and how many seconds the game took.
Nothing else is sent to the leaderboard. Its code does not keep your IP address or browser details, and it sets no cookie.
Private rooms
When you play with friends each on their own device, the game uses a private room on our game server. There are no accounts. Only players who have the room's code can join it.
- Your room name, such as Clever Otter 7, which the game makes for you from fixed lists of words, for that room only. The others in the room see it.
- The room: its code, its word level, who sits in which seat, the room names, and the game itself, with the clues and words typed in it. Our server keeps these only while the room is in use, and deletes all of them when the room ends: after 20 minutes without activity, 5 minutes with nobody connected, or 10 minutes after a game ends.
- A random seat key, which this tab keeps in its session storage with the room's code (
prefixpact.room.<code>andprefixpact.room), so you can get your seat back if the connection drops or you reload the page. Both are gone when the tab closes. The server keeps a code made from the key, not the key itself.
Only the players in the room see your clues, and the secret word reaches only the Keeper's device until the game ends. Our server checks the words and clues typed in a room with a word filter. When a seat is played for someone, the game text (the letters shown so far, the clue and the words already played) is sent and handled as described under “Sent to our game server”.
The game's code keeps no IP address, browser details or logs for rooms, and sets no cookie.

Your choices
Declining either one changes nothing about how the game plays.
Your choices need JavaScript to change.
Resetting makes a new random ID; the old one is never sent again, and its list of days is deleted after 400 days like any other.
